A face and a mask – the twin stage for the drama of our emotions. Both attracted me long before 1986, when I made about two dozen castings on my face in plaster. Next I painted into wet plaster – fresco fashion; “Actress”– a painterly mask, the paint brushed on canvas-like over the surface, not following facial features, but aiming for a dramatic effect. Casting directly on my face, I experienced the intuitive connection between the mind and the mask. For the next ten years I created, exhibited and taught masks. Featured in Palo Alto Weekly in 1988.
